Notebox Mismanager is a spreadsheet-style plain-text note collection program, released under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 2.
To use Mismanager, you will need to
download:
- Notebox Mismanager
This file includes the main application, what passes for documentation (in various formats), and some sample files for your edification and inspiration. No specific installation is necessary; just extract it into a folder.
- The Borland Kylix Runtime Library (required)
Courtesy of the KylixLibs project elsewhere on SourceForge. Simply extract the "libborqt-6.9.0-qt2.3.so" file to the same folder as the Mismanager executable; it should be detected and used automatically by Mismanager.
(This is considered gauche, Linuxly speaking; if you like you can go to the KylixLibs Download Page and try installing one of their distro-customized packages instead, which should also work; the custom packages are, however, somewhat dated.)
Also, you'll need to make sure a system library file called libjpeg62 is installed. If you don't have it, Mismanager not only won't run, it'll give a spurious error message related to the Runtime Library. Typically you should be able to use your system package manager (
Synaptic, pacman, yum or whatever it happens to be) to do this. On a 64-bit system make sure the 32-bit version is installed. (On 64-bit Ubuntu, you'll need to get to a Terminal and run
sudo apt-get install libjpeg62:i386 -- I don't see how to get Synaptic to do it. Why must things be so complicated?)
If you're inclined to mess about with the internals of Mismanager, download the
Notebox Mismanager Source Code. Kylix Open Edition WAS available free from
Borland's Kylix Download Page, but has been removed. It may show up again, or you could try a really diligent Google search. This is why the author is now plinking away at a C++/Qt 4 version...
The author runs Notebox Mismanager under
KDE 3.5.6 on Slackware 11.0-current TDE 3.5.13.1 on Ubuntu 12.04.2. The Debian derivatives Knoppix 3.6 and SimplyMEPIS (2004 release) have also been tried with satisfactory results. There was apparently a window manager problem with Red Hat 8 and some later versions, but this is believed fixed.
For best results you will probably need an X Windows clipboard enhancement program like KDE's Klipper. This isn't really the author's fault.
Notebox Mismanager has been patched with Simon Kissel's 'patchelf' in order to work on distributions that make use of 'execshield'.
